    THINKING OF GETTING A TATTOO?

Watch owner Chuck Gordon explain the process

Leave the bandage on for 2-3 hours after covered by your tattooist.

    1. 1. Remove bandage and wash immediately.
    2. Wash with open palm using warm soapy water. We suggest using a fragrance-free and dye-free antimicrobial soap. Remove any plasma, ink, or blood from the tattoo.
    3. Let warm water run over the tattoo for 5-10 minutes (for the first couple washings.) Remove any excess matter again using open palm and soap if needed.
    4. Rinse thoroughly.
    5. Let air dry or blot with a new clean paper towel. Apply a very thin layer of suggested aftercare lotion, cream, foam, ointment, etc. Reapply a thin layer as needed through the day with clean hands please.

Continue washing 2-3 times a day (or as directed) and apply aftercare products after washings and as needed until the tattoo is completely healed. Remember that different designs and placements on the body as well as different people and skin types will heal differently. Please call or stop in with any questions concerning healing.

    PIERCING AFTERCARE

There are several possible ways to clean your new piercing

Instructions : DO NOT clean more than 2 times daily. (Over cleaning a piercing can cause dryness and irritation.)

Wash hands thoroughly with an antibacterial or antimicrobial liquid soap.

With a small amount of soap and warm water work a lather around the piercing, saturating both holes and the jewelry. Continue to massage the area of 30 seconds.

Use clean q-tips to remove any dried matter from the jewelry. (dried matter is less difficult to remove if soften first by rinsing the pierced area for several minutes with water)

Rinse by running warm water over the piercing. (Urination after cleaning is encouraged for some genital piercings – don’t worry, your urine is sterile to your own body.)

    Suggested Soaps:

Satin: Mild antimicrobial soap, some moisturizing properties

Provon: Mild antimicrobial soap, some moisturizing properties

Dr. Bronner’s: All natural, pure-castile liquid soap, cool and refreshing. Not as effective as an antimicrobial soap like Satin and Provon.

Instructions : Clean 2-3 times a day. (Over cleaning a piercing can cause dryness and irritation.)

    Soaking (Preferred method):

Wash hands thoroughly with an antibacterial or antimicrobial liquid soap. Fill a small cup with preferred solution and invert it over the area to form a vacuum. (healing the solution by stove top or microwave may be helpful) For certain placements it is easier to use a paper towel or gauze pad soaked in the solution and applied to the area. Use either method to soak your piercing for 5-10 minutes. Use clean hands and q-tips to remove any dried matter from the jewelry.A clear water rinse after soaking may be preferred.

    Suggested saline solutions:

Saline: Mix 4 teaspoons of non-iodized Sea Salt to 1 gallon of distilled water. (For smaller proportions mix ¼ teaspoon of Sea Salt to 1 cup or 8 oz of Distilled water.)

Sterile Saline: (with no additives) This product is found in most pharmacies. Maybe labeled as wound care saline.

H2Ocean: Purified ocean salt water in a non-aerosol dry mist spray bottle

    – Or –

InstructionsWash hands thoroughly with an antibacterial or antimicrobial liquid soap. Apply one drop to a dry piercing 2-3 times a day to prevent dryness and promote healing.

    Suggested healing oils:

Emu Oil: All natural, highly moisturizing oil which contains properties that excel healing and prevent dryness while letting the pierced area breath. This oil works great for stretching too.

The use of ice and an over the counter anti-inflammatory such as Ibuprofen is strongly suggested to minimize swelling for 3 days after being pierced. Rinse with Saline Solution 2 times a day for 10-15 seconds. (those with high blood pressure or heart problems need only use warm water without sea salt) For Lip, Monroe, and Labret piercings follow the procedure for cleaning piercings using saline solutions to care for exterior hole. Rinse with an alcohol free mouthwash for 1 minute after eating, drinking, or smoking. (it is not advisable to smoke or drink alcohol during healing) Brush the jewelry and around your piercing to prevent plaque build-up. (by buying a new soft bristled tooth brush you can avoid introducing new bacteria to your piercing) A shorter length barbell or labret post is highly suggested once the piercing is healed to prevent damage to gums and teeth.

AVOID: Eating spicy, salty, acidic, or hot foods and beverages as it can irritate piercings.

    Suggested Oral Rinses:

    FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Here are answers to some questions we get a lot

We have a shop minimum of $100. Most tattoos will be priced based on the piece from the artist doing the work. Larger pieces will be charged with an hourly rate fit suitable for the piece.

Everyone has a different level of pain tolerance, so unfortunately its difficult to give a straight answer. Some areas hurt more than others, especially bony areas with thinner skin. Most people equate it to a hot scratch. Remember, if it hurt that badly, people would not be returning for multiple tattoos!

If you’re visiting Maui, we suggest getting tattooed at the end of your trip, since it is not recommended to go back into the water or be in the sun with a fresh tattoo.

Yes. We require a non-refundable deposit to book time on the schedule. The amount varies based on the length of your appointment. The deposit will come out of the final total of the finished tattoo. Deposits ensure your time and the artist’s time.

We like to accommodate walk-ins when we can, but we do recommend booking your appointment ahead of time. We cannot always guarantee that we will have an artist available at the time you come in, so booking and leaving a deposit will ensure the time is set aside for you.

Consults are free, 15min appointments that allow you to talk in person with the artist about your design. If you’re visiting we suggest booking consults at the beginning of your trip. Consults are required for coverups and multi-session pieces like half sleeves, full sleeves, etc.

It can often be distracting to both the artist and the client to have spectators, so it’s up to the artist’s discretion. Generally, we will allow one person to come back with you while you get tattooed. Additionally, because the shop is a sterile environment and we’re dealing with biohazard materials, we do ask that you’re careful/aware of your surroundings. We love children and allow them in the shop, but we do ask that they are well behaved and carefully watched over.

Great! Reference photos are the best way to help us know what you want to get done. We are a custom shop though and will work with you to give you an original piece based on your reference photos. You can bring them in to your consultation or include them in an email to us with your booking inquiries.

guardian consent. Normally, 16 is the minimum age for tattoos and piercings here at Soular (with the exception of earlobes) but final decision is left up to the artist/piercer’s discretion. We like to meet with the minor before hand to talk about design and placement before they agree to do it. Additionally, we require photo ID of both the minor and legal parent/guardian on the day of the appointment. We do have certain age restrictions on piercings, so go ahead and contact the shop if you have questions regarding piercings.

We do accept cards over the phone for deposits, but we do ask that you bring cash for the remaining balance of the tattoo. For all goods and services (including piercings, jewelry, and aftercare) we do prefer cash but can take a card if necessary. However, a 4% Service Fee will be applied to all credit card transactions.

We’re now charging a 4% state tax on all goods and services.

We require 48 hour notice for cancellations. Short notice cancellations and no call/no shows result in losing your deposit. You will need to leave a new deposit in order to rebook your appointment(s).

    * We require a non-refundable deposit for all appointments on the schedule.

    * Deposits are non transferable (You cannot apply your deposit towards another clients tattoo nor can you apply your deposit towards a tattoo with a different artist unless the artist you originally left the deposit with agrees to such request.)

    * Deposits expire 1 year from the time of the first appointment on multiple session tattoos

    * A 48 hour notice must be given to cancel or reschedule an appointment or your deposit will no longer be valid.

    * Deposits are only applied to finished tattoos. So deposits will come off the price of the final session if your tattoo requires more than one sitting.

    * Excessive rescheduling and canceling of appointments may lead to forfeit of your deposit. (3 strikes and you’re out).

If your artists agrees to having a sketch available to see then you may come in the day before your appointment to see it. We do not text or email artwork to clients. Nor do we allow you to take copies or a picture of the design at the time of viewing such sketches.

    A. Always eat a good meal beforehand! Low blood sugar can sometimes cause dizziness/fainting. Additionally, make sure to be well hydrated, especially in this Maui heat!

    B. Make sure that you don’t get sunburned. We cannot tattoo over freshly burned skin, so make sure to cover the area you plan to get tattooed and apply sun screen generously!

    C. Wear comfortable clothes that you don’t mind if they get stained with ink. If you’re getting a thigh tattoo please wear shorts. For chest/back tattoos we recommend no shirts for the men, swimwear for the women.

    D. Relax! And don’t be afraid to ask us any questions you may have! We’re here to help you feel comfortable and ready for your tattoo experience.

Its recommended to wait until your tattoo or piercing is fully healed. Healing time can vary and a lot of factors can affect the healing process; on average tattoos take about 2 weeks to fully heal and piercings can be anywhere from 4-6 weeks. For a more specific estimated healing time based on your tattoo/piercing feel free to ask!
